Navamsa (D9) chart and some of its uses.

Navamsa is often regarded as spouse chart. D9 is more than simply knowing about marriage/spouse. It's the window to your soul.

D9 (navamsa) is one of the divisional charts which shows subconscious internal self or real strength of your planets, microscopic version of D1. It is the magnified essence steming out of your 9th house of dharma, higher learning and thus it's "nav" or 1/9 division (amsa) . We often check strength and position of planets in D9 along with d1(rashi chart) to arrive at the final result of a planet.

D9 is not only for spouse, marriage, children, nature and behaviour of spouse, but for life purpose, career, Luck, dharma, swot analysis, soul development, spiritual evolution, karmic debts, past life and mainly predicting life events based on vimshottari dasha. Life doesnt stop after marriage, but our life takes a different turn with new circumstances, altered behavior and challenges, why and how we see here. There are many other divisional charts that we see for different purposes which are very specific for career, kids, money and so on. But D9 has multiple uses.

1. There is much importance of D9 lagna and D9 moon as much as D1 lagna/moon to arrive at persons emotional and physical state in life.
D9 moon is the true nature of your thoughts and emotional framework.

2. D1 shows material consciousness/experiences/ inspirations and concrete reality of this lifetime while D9 shows astral consciousness/experiences/ inspirations, psycho emotional/spiritual imagery and expectations.

3. D1 shows your social material reality, what you end up doing using your skills, resources, circumstances, situations, confinements and restrictions thrown at you, D9 is the deeper truth of what you really want in this lifetime.

4. When considering effects of a planet, divisional charts are used for calculating shadbala, exaltation and debilitation. we take the houses that a planet sits in D1 as well as D9 to arrive at final mixed result.

5. When a planet is combust with Sun, its assumed very weak or almost dead but when we check D9 and if we see if Sun is atleast 2 houses away from the said planet, we consider the planet to be still alive and capable of giving some results.

6. Placement and lordship of dasha lord in D9 helps in predicting life events via vimshottari dasa system. D1, D9 and D60 charts have the highest vimsopak bal for our use (if we have accurate time).

7. Placement of D1 lagnesh, Atmakaraka, Badhakesh and trik lords in D9 tell about life purpose and challenges

8. D9 lagna, D9 lagna lord, planets in D9 lagna, placement of Saturn, Rahu, Ketu will tell about significant lessons to be learnt in this lifetime.

9. Past bad karmas in relationships and its effect on present relationships can be seen by the placement of mars, venus and Jupiter in D9 in comparison to D1.

10.D9 lagna and its lord shows your core attitude, behaviour, hidden assumptions and psychic expectations towards marriage and the challenges and the changes you face being married.

11.10th lord of D9 and planets placed in it shows your career path, checking the 10th lord of D1 in D9 can give clues regarding type of career, challenges, development issues in this regard.

12. Though some astrologers do not work as psychologers and focus only on telling external problems based on D1, the solution of your problems in usually found in D9 (the internal hurdles). Thus its best to read D1 along with D9 for effective remedies.

Brihat Parashara Hora Sastras Method of how planets influence planets

 The Heart of Parashara Astrology

Each planet craves the fulfillment of its goals as signified by its inherent nature and lived out by the Bhavas

it rules. Fulfillment is the result of following natural laws of spiritual, emotional, energetic and physical living.

Only by following these natural laws is fulfillment possible. Any act that does not follow these laws results in a

wasted life, disappointment, disordered living and illness. Parashara’s Lajjitaadi Avasthas reveal these natural

laws in an astrological language while also allowing us to see how each person is living in accordance with these

laws or in detriment to them.

Astrologers often place great emphasis on the Bhavas in which planets are located, their dignities, the Yogas

they form, influence from benefics or malefics, etc. But the single most important consideration that far outweighs

any other consideration or group of considerations are the influences that a planet receives from its friends and

enemies. This, which are the majority of the principles of the Lajjitaadi Avasthas, are the heart of Parashara

Astrology. Everything else revolves around the principles and effects of the Lajjitaadi Avasthas, which is to say,

largely around the effects of the influence between friendly and inimical planets. The fact that there are inimical

and friendly planets that may affect each other lets us know that there are ways that planets can interrupt each

other and create discord in our lives, and ways in which they can increase the happiness in our lives. It is this that

the Lajjitaadi Avasthas will reveal.

Due to each planet having several friendly planets, there is almost always some supportive influence that each

planet is getting from a friend or favorable Lajjitaadi Avastha which indicates a healthy strategy towards life that

will result in fulfillment. Similarly, due to there being many unfriendly planets, there is always an element of

unhealthy strategies that will result in disappointments and pains. Thus, even in the most powerful appearing

charts where all planet’s are in good dignity and forming strong Yogas, there will be disappointments and lack of

fulfillment. As happiness is the goal of life and as only the Lajjitaadi Avasthas reveal the attitudes and behaviors

that result in happiness or unhappiness, the Lajjitaadi Avasthas become the single most important factor to analyze

in the horoscope and are the “Heart of Parashara Astrology.”

Planets in signs and houses Arudha Lagna(AL)-Pt.Sanjay Rath

Arudha lagna By Pt. Sanjay Rath

Arudha Lagna - The Personal image 1. Arudha lagna (AL) is the image of a person (or any body) which is the reflection of the ascendant about the lord of the ascendant. The ascendant is the physical personality & intelligence while the ascendant lord is the applied intelligence (Paka lagna). The arudha shows the way we are viewed in this world due to our overall personality and resources as well as due to its use and modifications. 2. There are arudha for each of the twelve houses and they represent the images that exist in our minds. For example, the arudha of the fourth house represents the home environment at childhood. If this is in a sign of Venus then it indicates a strong presence of mother and her family in shaping childhood. 3. The arudha lagna represents the final record of all events of ones life that form the image of the person. This implies images of other houses adding to the image of AL. Impact of darapada (A7) is crucial for relationships, finances and social success.

Planets & the arudha lagna

Moon is the significator of AL. Planets like Moon & Jupiter who have a good reputation associating with arudha lagna protect the reputation and image while planets like Saturn & Rahu with a bad name spoil the image. In general the relationship of planets with the Moon determines their ability to influence the arudha in a good or bad manner. The status of the arudha lagna lord is the status of the native. Planets exalted in the arudha lagna or the 7th from it promise reputation and success in their fields as well as consequent good fortune. Debilitated planets in arudha ruin the image. Benefic planets in the 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 & 8 houses and malefic planets in 3 & 6 houses give good results if they are strong in rasi & navamsa. Instead if the planets are weak in debility in the rasi or navamsa, the results will be contrary. On the other hand, weak benefic planets in the 3 & 6 houses from arudha lagna give rajayoga. The tenth house is good for benefic planets only and even exalted malefic planets in this house cause trouble. Any planet in the 9th house from arudha lagna gives good results and protects the image while they give good income in the 11th house and losses and expenses in the 12th.

Birth family & arudha

Further reading Co-born: Younger co-born from 3rd house & lord and elders from 11th house and lord. Children from the 9th house from Upapada Protector from the 9th house from arudha lagna¦and so on.

Transits & arudha

Transit of Saturn in the 1st, 4th, 8th & 10th houses from lagna and arudha are inauspicious. Transit of Jupiter in quadrants from arudha lagna is a blessing. Transit of Rahu in trines to arudha lagna gives rajayoga and material blessings while that of Ketu in trines is excellent for spiritual pursuits and renunciation. The Sun & Moon in trines to any arudha causes it to manifest

Change of image with time 1. The image or arudha is maya or untruth and cannot be permanent. It changes with time based on dasa. 2. Every dasa affects the arudha by (1) house placement from it and (2) argala (planetary intervention) 3. Narayana dasa, Vimsottari dasa and other such methods of progression are useful tools to decipher the changes in image. 4. Natural years of carakaraka replacement also cause major changes in the arudha. 5. Change in jobs, attainment of position and authority, marriage and various other events cause changes in the image depending on the association of their respective images with the arudha lagna. 6. Study dasa from standard texts.

Meaning & Concept of Arudha 1. Rasi/Bhava Arudha o Mirror image i.e. image of person in this world is his Arudha Lagna, Image of mother is A4, Father is A9 and so on. o How do these images intervene with his image? Argala & Virodhargala

2. Graha Arudha o Image of other people

Calculation Arudha Pada of the various houses o Riders (a)Swasthe Daraha, (b) Sutasthe Janma o Rules for dual Lordship

Graha Arudha of Various houses o Rules for dual lordship shall apply o Many like my grandfather used both Graha Arudha

Nomenclature

1. Bhava Arudha – 1st house: Arudha Lagna, Lagna Pada, Pada – AL, 2nd house: Dhana Pada; etc. till Upapada –UL,

2. Graha Arudha –Ravi pada, Chandra pada, Guru Meena pada etc.. are used in the nadi literature. What do they mean?

3. How to draw the Rasi & Graha Arudha Chakra?

• Rasi Arudha Chakra has true Graha positions. Thus it is the interaction of the images of his personal self and others close to him with the world. It shows how the world perceives you and how the world around you shall react to what you do.

• Graha Arudha Chakra has true Bhava positions. Thus it is the interaction of the images of the various people as perceived by the native on himself. It shows how you perceive the world around you and how you will react to the various environmental inputs.

Focus on Rasi arudha Chakra REsults

1. Results of planets in different houses from AL:

• Generally benefics in 1,2,4,5,7,8,10, and malefics in 3,6 & 12 indicate Rajyoga.

• Reverse shall occur when these planets are debilitated in Navamsa i.e. Vipareeta Rajyoga/neecha Yoga can occur.

• All planets, and even an Upagraha is beneficial in the ninth and shows prosperity and protection. It should be used for protecting your image.

• All planets in 11 show sources on income & in 12 show sources of expenditure.

• Malefics in 6 show corruption while benefics show honest income.

• Moon is the Karaka for AL.

• Planets in 7 & 12 show those who shall oppose you/ cheat you at home

2. Results of planets in different houses from Upapada.

• Just like the above, but the sun is Karaka and is always beneficial to UL.

• Exalted planets in UL, show spouse from a well known family; if debilitated reverse holds good; if none then the lord of UL shall show the status of spouse’s family.

Best Wishes

Atmakaraka & Karakamsa

Kārakāṁśa is composed of two words – (1) ‘kāraka’ referring to the ātmakāraka specifically and other Charakāraka (temporal significators) as well and (2) ‘aṁśa’ referring to the navāṁśa and other divisional charts. Kārakāṁśa refers to the navāṁśa (and/or other divisional charts) where the ātmakāraka is placed and such a sign is treated as the kārakāṁśa-lagna or seat of the real self, the soul and the first house for determining all things connected to deep inner desires and creation cause itself.

Definitions

The sign/navāṁśa occupied by the ātmakāraka gives us a clue as to the desire of the ātman and the nature of the ātmakāraka gives us vital information about the nature of the ātman, its spiritual development etc. Some of my experiences are listed below:

  1. If a malefic planet is the ātmakāraka, it indicates a high level of spiritual development whereas a benefic planet as the ātmakāraka indicates a relatively lower level. Example: Rāhu was the ātmakāraka for Srila Prabhupada and Ramakrishna Paramhaṁśa.
  2. The ātmakāraka invariably indicates suffering during its Vimśottari daśā, especially if a malefic. During the Nārāyaṇa daśā of the sign occupied by the ātmakāraka or those aspecting it, great achievements are made. If the native is spiritually inclined then the daśā of the ātmakāraka can be beneficial.
  3. A retrograde ātmakāraka indicates a deep-rooted desire as being the cause of the birth. This has to be seen from the nature of the planet which becomes the AK. For example, if Mars is AK and retrograde, then there is a very strong desire related to succeeding in some battle or competition in this planet and the native will be dragged into innumerable fights and will be fighting all the time. The solution lies in finding the best self defense strategies based on Kārakāṁśa of which, Ahimsa is the greatest. Similarly, if Saturn is the retrograde AK then the desire would manifest in the native doing something related to the elders or old knowledge in new bottles. When retrograde, this desire is very strong and will be the cause of all direction in life. The other signification of Saturn is sorrow and if the native gives sorrow to others, especially elders and those who are like Guru, then know that he is running a bad time and a lot of sorrow is in his destiny (in any case). The best remedy for him would be to develop a stoic attitude towards the acts and words of others and keep prodding in his path. In this manner, the retrogression is to be understood.
  4. Combustion of AK gives spiritual insight.

Planets as ātmakāraka:

1.       Sun as AK indicates the native has to learn to overcome his ego and should become humble.

2.       Moon as AK indicates that the native should be very caring and compassionate.

3.       Mars as AK indicates that the native should refrain from all forms of violence and stick to the path of Ahimsa.

KP House Grouping

House Grouping

Not single but multiple houses play role in any event of life. In KP terminology, these groups of houses for the event is called "House Group". This is also referred as Formula by some KP astrologers. In the table below we need to combine primary houses and supporting houses to come up with the house grouping for the event. For example, event "Good health" has 1,11 as house group. Event "Proneness of disease" has house group 1, 6, 8, 12.

There are two uses of the House Grouping table below -

1. Knowing whether the event is promised in one's chart or not
If the cuspal sub lord of primary house signifies primary and supporting houses, the event is promised. Please read "Chapter 2: Fundamental Principles" to get better understanding.

2. When the event will happen
Events happens when the planet-lords of current dasa (dasa lord, antardasa lord, pratyantardasa lord, sookshma lord etc.) signifies house group. For example, one has "Good health" when one passes through dasa of the planets signifies houses 1,11. Similarly, "Proneness to disease" happens when one passes through dasa of the planets signifies 1,6,8,12. Again, please read "Chapter 2: Fundamental Principles" to get better understanding.

How to remember the nakshatras

We need to remember the following sequence to start with :

Chart 1

S.No.     Planets                                Dasha ( Years)

1.            Sun                                       6

2.            Moon                                  10

3.            Mars                                    7

4.            Rahu                                    18

8.            Ketu                                     7

9.            Venus                                  20

It is important to remember their sequence and years.

How long does a planet stay in a sign?

The Sun spends about 30 days in each sign.
The Moon spends about 2 1/2 days in each sign.
Mercury spends about 14 to 30 days in each sign.
Venus spends between about 23 days to a little over 2 months in a sign.
Mars stays in one sign for about 1.5 months.
Jupiter stays in one sign an average of one year.
Saturn stays in one sign for about 2 1/2 years.
Uranus stays in one sign about 7 years.
Neptune stays in each sign about 14 years.
Pluto stays in each sign between 14 and 30 years.

SURYA (SUN)

Planet Sun has different names in Hindu religion Ravi, Arun, Dinamani, Dingar, Mitra, Surya, Bhanu,Kha , Pushya,Hiranyagarbha, Marichin, Aditya, Savitr, Arka, Bhaskara, Diwakar, Prabhakar, Dinesh, Mihir, Nabheshwar, Martanda, Tapan.

In English it is Sun, in Arabic it is Shams, in Persian it is Khurshed .

Sun is the centre of our solar system and 9 major planets and their moons revolve around our sun. Sun has a diameter of 1.3927 million km or 696,340 km radius.

According to hindu mythology (Sanatana Dharma, Daksha Prajapati had 2 daughters, Aditi and Diti, who were both married to Rishi or sage Kashyapa

Diti gave birth to both the Marutas and the Asuras (Daityas) with the sage Kashyapa and Aditi gave birth to the Surya (Sun) and other celestial bodies.

Surya's wife or consort's name was Sandhya. Sandhya had a sibiling named Chhaya who was a consort to Sun.

Once, when Sandhya couldn't handle the intensity of Surya, She held Chhaya in front of her as an offering to Him. during that time, Chhaya gave birth to 9 sons of Surya. One of those sons, is considered Shani dev or planet Saturn.

Surya is the mythological father of many notable sons, including Manu (progenitor of the human race), Yama (god of the dead), the Ashvins (twin physicians to the gods), Karna (a great warrior in the Mahabharata), and Sugriva (king of the monkeys in the Ramayana). The Puranas (collections of Hindu myths and legends) record that the weapons of the gods were forged from pieces trimmed from Surya, whose full emanation was too bright to bear. His power was conceived of as dispelling darkness, curing disease, and heating and illuminating the world.

Surya on his chariot with his charioteer Aruna

It is said Surya dev has 7 horses and one charioteer Aruna. When He enters the sign of taurus, equal days and night are present on earth and with each passing sign gemini, cancer, leo, virgo an hour keeps decreasing at night and the day time increases with each sign.

and when Surya enters scorpio, saggitarius, capricorn, aquarius and pisces then each hour of the day goes on decreasing and hours of night keep increasing with each sign transit.

Scientifically, Sun is 93.472 million miles or 150 million km away from earth and 13 lakh times that of earth's size.

Sanskrit texts: How many days in a year?
Hindu textEstimated length of the sidereal year[48]
Surya Siddhanta365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 36.56 seconds
Paulica Siddhanta365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 36 seconds
Paracara Siddhanta365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 31.50 seconds
Arya Siddhanta365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 30.84 seconds
Laghu Arya Siddhanta365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 30 seconds
Siddhanta Shiromani365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, 9 seconds

The oldest of these is likely to be the Surya Siddhanta, while the most accurate is the Siddhanta Shiromani.

Vipareet Raja Yoga

Vipareet can be defined as unfavourable circumstances, so this yoga is generally mysterious in nature and is usually a common yoga.

Vipareet raja yoga is a powerful yoga which forms when the house lord of 6th, 8th and 12th houses are either in thier own sign or exchange their sign placements.

if lord of 6th house is posited in of 6th, 8th or 12th house, then this combination results into vipareet Harsha raja yoga.

Now if, lord of 8th house is posited in of 6th, 8th or 12th house, then this combination results into vipareet Saral raja yoga.

And if, lord of 12th house is posited in of 6th, 8th or 12th house, then this combination results into vipareet Vimal raja yoga.

Now each vipareet raja yoga give more or less a similar effect in native's life and the terminology is used for us to differentiate better.

If 6th house lord, 8th house lord and 12th house lord are exchanging sign placements in any house {kendra or trikon} this is similar to a parivartan yoga but is defined as Vipareet raja yoga since it is happening through dusshtanna house lords.

The vipareet raja yoga usually only gives results in the time period or dashas of that planet and until then any noticeable effects of this raja yoga are difficult to manifest.

How are the results

There's a pre-condition to this Yoga. Since vipareet can be translated to unfavourable circumstances, during the dasha of that planet, it usually manifests some unfavourable circumstances in your life. they could be related to anything from your health, professional life, personal life etc.(depends on the nature of planet) because this yoga can only benefit the native in unfavourable events and can only activate if these circumstances are present.

Parivartan Yoga

Whenever planets in kendra or Angle interchange signs then this results into Maha-Parivartan Yoga. The planets in question shouldn't be at low degrees(<5°) or high degrees (>25°) (eg: Jupiter at 2.4° in the sign of gemini and mercury at 3° in sagittarius for a Virgo asc.) this will weaken the effect of Priavrtan yoga.

Besides the kendra placement, Maha-Parivartan Yoga is also applicable to houses of wealth and gain i.e. 2 and 11 respectively. If planets in these exchange the signs the native will have good gains throught their lives. Maha-Parivartan Yoga is exteremly powerful yoga which is no less than a Raja yoga.

kahal parivartan yoga occurs 3rd house lord exchanges sign placement with any other lord expect the lords of  3rd, 6th or 12th. 3rd house is considered as a uppaychya house and isn't considered a benefic house because according to Bhavat bhavam its the 8th house from the 8th. Due to this it is the 2nd most important Parivartan yoga after Maha-parivartan yoga

Dainya parivartan yoga occurs when lords of 3rd, 6th and/or 12th make parivartan yoga which any other house lords. eg: jupiter is 6th house lord and Venus is lagna lord in taurus asc. chart. When these planets exhange the signs, Dainya Parivartan yoga occurs which is considered the weakest parivartan yoga since it is exchanging signs with Dusshtanna houses.

Understanding of Rahu and Ketu

Sanatana Dharma Philosophy

According to Puranas, the birth of Rahu and Ketu dates back to earliest of times.‘Samudra Manthan’ is regarded as one of the most important events in the history of Hindu civilization. Following which, Solar and Lunar eclipse are also associated with ‘Samudra Manthan’. When the ocean was churned by the Asuras and Devas, ‘Amrit’ was produced. This Amrit was stolen by Asuras and to obtain the Amrit, Lord Vishnu took incarnation in the form of a beautiful damsel ‘Mohini’ and tried to please and distract the demons. On receiving the Amrit, Mohini came to Devas to distribute it to them.

‘Svarbhanu’, one of the asuras changed his appearance to a deva to obtain some portion of the Amrit. However, Surya (Sun) and the Chandra (Moon) realized that Svarbhanu was an Asura and not one of the devas. Knowing this, Lord Vishnu severed Svarbhanu’s head with his discus, the Sudarshan Charka.

However, even though his head and body became separated, they still remained immortal as the separate entity because before his head was served, he managed to drink a drop of the nectar from the Amrit. The Head is known as Rahu and the headless body is the Ketu. Since then Rahu and Ketu constantly chase the Sun and the Moon for revenge as they are the cause of separating the head and body of the Asura Rahu. It is a popular belief that when they succeed catching Sun and Moon they swallow them causing Solar or Lunar eclipse but they can’t hold them for long and Sun and Moon emerge again intact as they also had nectar and are immortal.

If an exalted Sun in Birth Chart gets debilitated in D9, then not only there is disturbance in married life but the spouse will not get elevation in service/profession or prosperity at least after marriage. But vargottama Sun promise elevation in service/profession and enjoys luxuries of life after marriage.

Mars through the Navamsa

  • Mars in Leo Navamsa: The native whose Mars occupies Leo Navamsa will be miserly, fond of sleeping for long, troubled by cardiac diseases, will eat abundantly and be crafty.
